Good Food Kai Pai - for a healthier food environment
Our food environment has become saturated with unhealthy food options. At every turn there are sugar sweetened drinks and meals that are served in large portions - high in saturated fats, sugars and salts. These foods are often seen as cheap and convenient options. But they are major contributors to our increasing obesity rates and poor health.
The Good Food, Kai Pai Food & Drink Guidelines provide practical advice for community organisations and food vendors who prepare and serve food at events. Included are tips for minimising sugar, fat and salt, increasing fruits and vegetables, using alternative cooking methods and offering appropriate portion sizes.
By working with event vendors and community organisations, it’s possible to create a ‘new normal’ – a food environment where it’s easy to choose healthy options.
