Feet stickers leading staff and visitors to stairwells have resulted in more people climbing steps around the region's hospitals.
The three DHBs have run a Step it Up stairclimbing campaign over winter, with some positive change in buildings with visible stairwells.
Hospital sites with stairs that are hidden or less convenient were less likely to see people choosing the stairs over the lifts, proving it is difficult for posters and prompts to overcome bad building design.
Climbing just four floors a day is associated with a 20 percent lower risk of all cause mortality and is an easy and quick way to include physical activity in a working day.
